Alternately providing shade during the day and security lighting at night, the canopies create small public spaces serving a variety of purposes. They provide seating areas at bus stops and incorporate public art panels into an “urban art gallery” while they serve as gateways to the neighborhood. These “amenity infrastructures” also serve as branding devices for the local business association of the neighborhood, the clients for the project.
