AZ Foothills – October 2007
This acronym-loving architect is know for elevating the simplest, most functional structures into works of art. Take his new 1,000-foot cooling and shade throughscape outside of Phoenix Sky Harbor’s Terminal 2. Consisting of high-tech fabrics strung over metal supports sheathed in a heat-resistant liquid-dipped, powder coating “paint”, these structures offer both evaporative-cooling stations and “cool” concrete benches made of “crumb rubber”. (This rubber was developed by ASU researchers from tire crumbs to increase thermal resistance.)
